HYGEA BRODOLINI x UNIBO 2023

Research reveals that waste collectors encounter numerous challenges during their work. Physical strain from intensive work is a common issue, as is a sense of insufficient appreciation for their essential work. Our project aims to make the work of waste collectors more pleasant and safer through thoughtful product design.

01.

Exploration Phase

The first step is to gain in-depth insight into the challenges faced. We ask critical questions and observe the work environment of waste collectors. Interviews with professionals, discussions with experts, and analysis of existing research are valuable sources of information.

02.

A Large Scale Mission

This project has an ambitious goal: significant improvement of the working conditions for waste collectors. We explore various angles and, in collaboration with the team, look for innovative solutions in different areas.

03.

Concept Development

Through iterative design cycles and interim presentations, the best ideas are selected and refined. The focus is on creating multiple concepts that we then present to our stakeholders.

04.

Concept to Prototype

The chosen concept is developed in detail in multiple design rounds. We continuously analyze, design, and test until all details are perfected and a functional final product is realized.

05.

Prototype Evaluation and Finalization

The produced prototype is extensively tested in practice. We involve waste collectors and their supervisors in the evaluation process. Based on the feedback, the last points of attention are addressed, after which the project is successfully completed.
